Our ceremony musician was one of my dearest friends (and MOH K's husband) T! An amazingly talented singer and guitar player, he was our top choice to play the gig and best of all, he came free!
Mr. Jet, T and I collaborated on three songs to be played during the group processional, the bride's processional and the group recessional. Our criteria were songs that were: sentimental, ability to translate to acoustic, recognizable as instrumental.
For our group processional, we went for "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel. Listen along with a giant boombox over your head whilst I share photos of our processional!
The guys step into place, and can you spot T in the background?!

Mr. Jet and I stole a few minutes at each location for some solo shots. BONUS: In case we don't like anyone in our wedding party down the road, we can pretend like it was just the two of us.
Prepare yourselves for kissing and general romance.

I'm by no means a professional model, so my serious time in front of the camera was very limited on my wedding day. We all got a mean case of the sillies a few times which made for some of my absolute favorite pictures of the day!
Mr. Jet is not amused. I, on the other hand...
Marla Hooch...what a hitter.
Our first attempt at the "Bridesmaids" pose, until a bug flew into MOH J's dress! FUN FACT: The same thing happened to our mom on her wedding day in 1979!
My palest, craziest little cousin.
I can't laugh and see at the same time, apparently!
"Let's pretend we're gossiping about tampons and boys for a Seventeen photo shoot!"
No makeup was harmed in the making of this photo.
Trying to figure out some veil-play. I can't take being the center of attention seriously...ever.

"Should've worn a cup for that shot...yikes."
This might be a New England thing...but does anyone else have "that" guy who just likes to pick people up? We totally have "that" guy.
Dog-Bearer L was clearly hitting his wall at this point in the day....

New Bedford has a long-standing history as the Whaling City, but it's also widely known for its Portuguese immigrant population - including Mr. Jet's parents! That being said, there are no lack of Portuguese restaurants and cafes around the city. A new one popped up a few weeks before our wedding, Tia Maria's European Cafe, and they spotted us racing around town for our portraits and asked us to pose with them for a photo!
Notice the giddy look on my face?! It's because they brought us a set of pastries called Pastels de Nata. They're these amazing custard-filled pastries that I cannot get enough of.
We practiced our cake serving technique...
...then headed back to the trolley bound for our next, and final, stop!

We frolicked around Downtown for a little while longer until it was time to head to our ceremony and stopped off in front of the city's National Marine Fisherie building. Fun Fact: New Bedford is now largely dedicated to the preservation and sustainability of wildlife and fisheries along the Atlantic coast but it was also once the largest whaling port in the world, featured in the novel Moby Dick by Herman Melville. There is a marathon reading at the start of every new year of the entire book by English students, teachers and volunteers from our area. That is your Ted Mosby Fun Fact of the Day. You're welcome.
We also stopped in front of New Bedford's Whaling Museum for some photos in front of our beloved Whale Tail statue. At this point, my face was hurting from all of the smiling and all of the caffeine had made its way out of my system. That's when these happened:
Time for a second wind! As we headed back up to the trolley, I spotted a Red Sox sign on a bench and since my boys were due to play a basically do-or-die game in mere hours, I stopped to send them some juju....
The juju worked! The Sox won their game and thereby won the ALDS and went on to win the World Series!! I totally believe it was my wedding day juju that got them there...not their talent or hard work at all.

As I mentioned in my last post, a co-worker happened to be running by as we were taking our portraits downtown. Ever wonder what a wedding day photo shoot looks like behind the scenes?
There's Uncle J and his trusty assistant, Nephew D! / Personal Photo
I've said it before and I'll say it again to basically anyone who'll listen - the trolley we rented was one of our best investments. Not only did it prove to be trusty transportation for our entire wedding party - including Bruce! - but it also complimented our modern rustic theme. We wanted to take advantage of its rustic charm so Mr. Jet and I hopped onto the back deck? Porch? Caboose? for some shots.

After our first look, we all boarded the trolley (including our chihuahua, Bruce Banner) and headed Downtown for our bridal party portraits. The city of New Bedford is rich with history and wasn't lacking for gorgeous backgrounds of dark brick and rich stone, cobblestone streets and wrought iron accents as well as our very own Whaling Museum.
We wanted our photos to feel like home, and I think we accomplished just that.
Given that New Bedford is a very small city where everyone knows your name and your business, we were sure we'd run into some people we knew. Literally 5 minutes into the shoot, we saw two of our wedding guests, one of my co-workers AND my best friend's dad - the city mailman! We ushered him onto our "set" and made him pose with us.

The First Look
Early on, Mr. Jet and I decided we'd have a first look. From a logistical standpoint, it made sense to do the majority of our photos before our ceremony, since it didn't start until 5 PM - only an hour before sunset. From a frantic bride standpoint, it made sense to do the majority of our photos before our ceremony so that the first time I saw Mr. Jet was a private, special moment and I could break down in any manner of ugly cry I wished.
I grew up just a block from where my step-mom lives now and where my girls and I got ready that day, and there's a small park at the end of her street where I played as a child more times than I could ever count. I picked that park for our first look as a nod to my past and start to our future. Who knows, maybe our kids will play in that park some day.
I asked my step-mom, sister (MOH J) and MOH K to join me as I went to go meet my guy.
A gorgeous, New England fall day as captured by MOH J.
At this point in time, I wasn't nervous at all. I was calm and excited to see Mr. Jet. Maybe it was the Instagram peek I got a few hours earlier, or maybe it was the fact that I felt so at peace with myself (I looked so good!) and with the choice I was making in marrying my absolute best friend on Earth.
Uncle J had Mr. Jet facing away from me on a small bench in the corner of the park and as I approached him, I remember smiling from ear to ear. I tapped him gently on the shoulder and burst into tears as he turned around.
We spent the next 15 minutes or so hugging, kissing and just...staring. We were both on cloud 900 and took absolutely everything in.
I fiddled with his boutonniere and he dried my last tear and before long, it was time to head back to the trolley, together.
We walked back up the street hand-in-hand and were greeted by old neighbors and our bridal party clapping and hollering at us. No wonder why people want to be celebrities, it was so fun!
