Recently, I was chatting with Nana about my "somethings" and mentioned to her that I needed a something old.

Her reply?

"What about me?  I'm old."

"Nana..."

"What, it's true!"

::shakes head::

When I was a little girl, I used to love going through all of Nana's costume jewelry and trying on her seemingly endless collection of earrings, necklaces, rings and hair pins.

Oh, that reminds me!  Came across this gem awhile ago...

I told her what I was looking for in terms of my wedding day jewelry, she pulled out the box of jewelry as usual, and we sifted through, on the hunt for a piece I could use as my something old.  When I pulled out a double-strand pearl necklace with rhinestone clasp out of its yellowing jewelry box, I just knew - it was perfect!  Pearls + Deco = Jackpot for Miss Jet!

This necklace also belonged to my great-grandmother, Grandma D'Arrezzo, whom I never had the chance to meet.  A nice way to carry on my heritage and honor another member of my family.

So there we have it, folks!  My something OLD, NEW, BORROWED and BLUE!

What are your "somethings"?

Hola, Hive-a-ritos! (Kimmy Gibbler, anyone?)

When last we chatted about my wedding day get-up, I had solved my shoe crisis and found my something blue.

When my sister had gotten married last year, she worked with Amanda from Happily Ever Borrowed, a website much like Rent the Runway and Bag, Borrow or Steal that lends out wedding day accessories to brides for a fraction of their retail cost!

They offer all types of accessories from sashes and veils to jewelry and hair combs.  Here were a few of my "wish-I-could-wear-a-hundred-pieces-of-jewelry-on-my-wedding-day" faves!  (All images below via Happily Ever Borrowed)

have a feeling my sash might look something like this!

if I had chosen a simpler dress, this would've been a major contender!

not a bracelet-wearer, but this is gorgeous enough to almost change my mind!
Since I still needed my something "borrowed" and haven't had much luck finding a pair of earrings I absolutely loved, I decided to "borrow" from HEB!  I saw these stud earrings and fell completely in love!

these studs are small enough as to not compete with my veil/sash/dress/necklace, but large enough to make a super statement. ::drool::
Sadly, I won't see these lovelies until a few days before the wedding, but it was a great way to find a beautiful accessory for a very reasonable price and check "something borrowed" off the list at the same time!

How about you guys, ever "rent the runway"?

Okay, so I'm totally crazy and type-A and need everything to be perfect and HATE surprises - that makes me the perfect person to be proposed to, right?

The first few years of dating Mr. Jet, marriage didn't really cross my mind.  We had moved in together after 11 months of dating, and I was serious about him, but being a wife wasn't at the top of my list of priorities just yet.  I was still young and trying to figure out what I could do with a Communications degree and how to buy a new car with nothing to put down.

We casually talked about "forever" once in a while and I knew pretty early on he was the one for me and I for him.  We just wanted to take things slow and enjoy life as we knew it - raising our chihuahua mix, Bruce Banner, paying our bills on time and exploring our hobbies together and individually.

It wasn't until 4 years into our relationship that I started to get...the fever.  The more we did things like get a joint checking account and invest in furniture together, the more I realized that this WAS forever.  I wanted to keep him forever.  I wanted a proposal from him so that I knew he felt the same way.

In the winter of 2011, I really pushed the issue with Mr. Jet.  I was ready and needed him to know it.  He said he wanted forever too, and it would happen if I was patient.

Me?  Patient?  Has he actually MET me?

One night over a shared scorpion bowl at our favorite Chinese restaurant, I got him to agree to look at rings with me.  We stopped into a local, family-owned jewelry store and I pointed out exactly what I wanted.  (I had been there a few times before with my equally-as-obsessed friend, Chelsea).  Oh, just an Asscher cut diamond, in an antique-style pavé setting in white gold where the diamonds only go half-way around to prevent gunk build-up.  Nothing really particular about that.

Mr. Jet completely surprised me when he came out with this one:

"Okay, let's get it."

"Say whaaaaaa?" says me in a scorpion bowl-induced stupor.

We ordered the ring that night and we left hand-in-hand with a real promise for our future.
